Ski/Snowboard Guide Training Program

The WAS Ski/Snowboard Guide Training Program gives students the opportunity to enlarge their backcountry skill set and pursue a career in guiding. With on-snow, hands-on courses, students will learn the fundamentals of ski and snowboard guiding. Throughout the program, students will be working in alpine terrain, building a resume of trips and backcountry experiences to help prepare them to reach an ACMG / UIAGM level.

Entry Requirements:

  • Advanced skiing/snowboarding skills
  • Minimum 18 years old
  • Proficient in English                

Program course hours and description (click on each course for more information):

  1. Ski / Snowboard Guide Level 22.5 hours (end of November / beginning of December)
    The curriculum introduces students to the basic skill sets required for successful backcountry mountaineering experience. Students are exposed to avalanche safety and backcountry travel preparation. Students learn basic ski mountaineering and rescue  skills and are given the ability to effectively use this information in the field.
  2. Ski / Snowboard Guide Level 67.5 hours
    The snow sport industry is experiencing a boom in backcountry recreation. As snow sport enthusiasts desire to venture deeper into the backcountry, the need for trained, dedicated guides has increased. The Ski Guide course follows the ACMG/IFMGA curriculum educating students on safe backcountry for their clientele. Students are immersed in avalanche training and client management. The business side of managing a guide operation is also covered in this course.

    Completing the Guide  certificate allows students to enter the guide workforce equipped with the skills necessary to assist clientele in the backcountry. Essential skills such as terrain selection, avalanche/safe travel preparation and customer service skills give students the ability to effectively use this information in the field with their clients.

  3. Ski / Snowboard Guide Level 67.5 hours
    The Ski/Snowboard Guide testing course prepares students for guide-level testing. The curriculum focuses on the necessary skill sets required to complete ACMG level testing in avalanche safety, client management, and the  business of managing a guide operation. Completing the Guide certificate will allow students to enter the guide workforce equipped with the skills necessary to assist clientele in the backcountry.

Program Costs:

  • Tuition Fee International: $5,000 CAD
  • Tuition Fee Local: $3,500 CAD
  • Application Fee: $125 CAD
  • Ski Gear Rental Fee: $150 CAD
  • Ski Gear Rental Deposit: $250 CAD
