Foundations of Food and Beverage

This Diploma or Certificate course is a hands on training program designed for students to develop knowledge, skills and real world training in the fast-paced food and beverage industry. It prepares one to be job-ready and ensures that all the certifications required are met for F&B jobs. Upon completion of this program, the student will have an understanding of the components and terms of the F&B industry and leave with skills allowing them to be successful at entry or mid-level service positions.
Diploma: 48 weeks (24 study weeks + 24 co-op practicum week). Monthly start dates.

STUDENTS WILL COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING SIX COURSES IN THEIR 24 WEEK STUDY TERM:
1. Essential Food Service
2. Fundamentals: Wine, Beer & Spirits
3. Introduction to Technology & Social Media in Food and Beverage
4. Catering & Events & Occupational Health and Safety
5. Food Preparation & Culinary Skills
6. Menu Development & Kitchen Management
EARN MONEY FOR EXPENSES WHILE STUDYING:
You will be given permission on your study permit to work part time (20 hours per week) while studying. You can do this part time work in all 48 weeks of the program, in addition to your 480 hour co-op work practicum, and earn money to support your living costs during the program. Students get personal counseling and assistance to find employment while in Whistler. With over 100 restaurants ranging from casual to fine dining, and over 25 Major Hotels in the resort, jobs are plentiful and employers are looking for motivated and qualified staff. Tamwood has partnerships with many of the top hotels and restaurants and we coach students so that they can find work fast! Students can expect to earn minimum wage or higher.
CO-OP WORK TERM:
Diploma level students are required to complete a 480 hour co-op work experience by working 40 hours per week in their second 24 week term. These paid positions allow students to develop the skills taught in the classroom and gain valuable Canadian work experience.
Age: minimum 19 years
English Level: CEFR B1, TOEIC 650, IELTS 5, TOEFL ibT 52-64, Cambridge PET
(Merit) or have achieved Tamwood Colleges’ level 4
