Foundations of Food and Beverage (Diploma/Certificate)

An event every 4 weeks that begins at 9:00am on Monday, repeating until June 15, 2020

This hands on, well curated training program allows students to develop the knowledge, skills, and real world training needed for careers in the fast-paced food and beverage industry. Delivery approach consists of a combination of in-class lectures and practical application from industry experts in the field. Students attending this program will be achieving 9 nationally and internationally recognized certificates that are highly valued in the Food and Beverage Industry. From learning safe serving practices with Food Safe and Serving it Right, to learning fundamentals of cooking and serving earning the AHLEI Kitchen Cook and Server Certifications, and the fundamentals of beer, spirits and wine with the Cicerone and WSET programs.

Program Outcomes
Upon completion of this program, you will have an understanding of all aspects, components and terminology of the Food and Beverage industry and will be able to pursue a career in front or back of houses, restaurants, hotels, resorts, bars, cruise ships and event venues. You will also achieve 9 nationally and internationally recognized certificates that are highly valued in the Food and Beverage Industry.
Co-Op Work Experience
Students in the Diploma program must complete a 480 hour co-op education to graduate from this program. You will start your work term on completion of your six-month study term. You have up to 24 weeks in which to complete your 480 co-op hours. Students typically do their co-op work experience in a Food and Business as these jobs allow you to develop communication, culture, professional and personal skills.
Admission Requirements
• Minimum age: 19 years
• Language Skills: You must demonstrate you have an intermediate level/level 4 English with Tamwood Careers’ online written test and admission interview, or by presenting evidence of having achieved any of the following: CEFR B1, IELTS 5, TOEFL ibT 52-64, Cambridge PET (Merit) or Tamwood Language Centres’ level 4
*Students who need to improve their English skills before getting admitted to this program can take English courses at Tamwood Language Centres.
Program Length
Certificate Program – 26 weeks (24 weeks study term+2 weeks Capstone Project)
Co-Op Diploma Program – 48 weeks (24 weeks study term+24 week of co-op work placement)
